A good laugh in Sarasota isn't hard to find at some of the area's established institutes for comedy acts (and art).

Mark Twain once said, “Telling the truth is the funniest joke of them all.”

And if truth be told, a good laugh in Sarasota isn’t hard to find. The city has numerous venues that offer open-mic nights where local comedians are sure to tickle your funny bone with some great material.

Sea Rocket Gulf Coast Parasail

Soaring above stunning waters on a parasailing excursion brings excitement and scenic delights to your vacation along Florida's Gulf Coast.

Connect with the sky in a calming, take-it-all-in kind of way with parasailing. It is a fairly passive activity that combines a little adventure with a whole lot of tranquility.  This is one experience that does not require athletic skills, stamina or competitive streaks, as it is simply a gentle, soul-warming way to see Sarasota County.

Grabbing a blanket and packing some PB&Js makes for a simple beach picnic, but what if you want to get a little more creative?

Your dream picnic can be just as magical as the ones you see on TV. Sarasota's scenery makes it simple. Enjoy a long picnic lunch in the sunshine or a quiet picnic dinner at sunset. All you need to do is make a few preparations along the way.

For decades, the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center, affectionately nicknamed "The Purple Cow," was the most flamboyant critter on the bayside stretch of Sarasota's North Tamiami Trail - but these days, it's impossible to ignore the giant, fluorescent pink flamingos who have moved in down the street. Two 1,200-pound metal flamingos beckon from the roadside, flanking the entrance to the Marietta Museum of Art & Whimsy, a one-of-a-kind addition to Sarasota's colorful art scene.
