Dining Out With Kids: An Adult-Friendly Guide

Anna Maria Oyster Bar - North Port & Sarasota

Anna Maria Oyster Bar (ABOB) opened its newest Sarasota County location in North Port (the other location at University Town Center). Both offer an open-air, family-friendly dining experience that brings the charm of Florida's Gulf Coast to your table. Beyond the obvious namesake of freshly shucked oysters, there is a huge selection of surf and turf options to savor.

For You: Adults can take advantage of weekly specials to get the best bang for their buck. Enjoy All You Can Eat Fish-and-Chips on Mondays, discounts on live steamed whole Maine Lobsters on Tuesdays, half off all wines on Wednesdays and a killer happy hour daily (including deals on the coveted AMOB Grand 'Ritas). Specials are subject to change. 

For Them: Dine out on a school night for its unique Penny An Inch promotion. Kids 10 and under dine from the kids' menu for just one penny-per-inch of height (56" means 56¢!) for their meal. Parents can't ask for a much better deal than that! There's also a large private dining room to host your child's birthday party, should you be looking for a space beyond the typical amusement centers.

Old Salty Dog - Lido Key, Siesta Key & Venice

With three prime locations on City Island Lido Key, Siesta Key Village and Venice Island, The Old Salty Dog is always a convenient distance to cool drinks and fresh fish. Offering a Florida Keys tiki hut vibe, it's the perfect spot to jump off the boat from a day out on the sandbars and grab a casual lunch.

For You: Sitting al fresco with the salty air breezing by, it’s a challenge not to take a deep breath and relax at The Old Salty Dog. The grouper sandwich is the go-to menu item and if stone crabs are in season, stifle any hesitation – just go for it. Treat yourself to a frozen cocktail or local beer on tap to really ease into the vacay vibes. 

For Them: Food served to children is on a Frisbee. Enough said. That disc will keep the little ones entertained for the duration of the meal and onto the beach afterwards. For hot dog lovers, the “Salty Dog” gives a twist to an old classic. Kids meals also come with Oreos. At the Lido location, the whole family can enjoy dockside views while eating. Be on the lookout for pelicans diving and dolphins and manatees swimming by. 

Lefty's Oyster & Seafood Bar – Sarasota

Newly opened in Sarasota's evolving Rosemary District, Lefty's Oyster & Seafood Bar offers a relaxed coastal vibe with a focus on fresh seafood and a family-friendly atmosphere. It's an ideal spot for families seeking an easygoing happy hour or a taste of the sea in a gorgeous outdoor patio setting.​

For You: Savor oyster shooters, seafood platters and coastal-inspired dishes prepared with fresh ingredients. The laid-back setting and firepit bar tables provide a comfortable and sophisticated dining experience for the adults to share drinks and stories.​

For Them: The "Little Mariners" menu features familiar favorites like fried shrimp, chicken tenders and macaroni and cheese—ensuring young diners have satisfying options. There's also plenty of outdoor space for kids to wander with young friends within the patio's fenced-in yard.

Fins at Sharky's - Venice

Located at the family-friendy Venice Beach, longtime local hotspot, Fins at Sharky's, offers a diverse surf-and-turf menu and inviting atmosphere by the sea both day and night—ensuring an enjoyable dining experience for the adults and kiddos alike. 

For You: Fins at Sharky’s is located smack dab on the Gulf of Mexico, where you can enjoy gorgeous beachfront views. Pair an evening sunset with a tropical frozen drink and live music. The extensive menu provides award-winning seafood however you like from sandwiches, bowls, pastas and more!

For Them: Sand! The beach and famous Venice Fishing Pier are just steps away, so the kids can build sandcastles or look for shells safely within eyesight while you finish up dinner and adult conversations. But the kids got to eat, right? The cheeseburger sliders and grilled cheese on the kid's menu remain popular picks — drink and gelato included. 

Captain Curt's Crab & Oyster Bar – Siesta Key
