Spiritualism & Tea at Charms of Leffingwell 4/26 & 4/27
Join Manatee Village Historical Park staff for a hot cup of tea and fascinating stories of psychics, ghosts and divination. Manatee Village Historical Park will be opening a new exhibit, "Religion in Manatee", in April. In conjunction with this new exhibit, Manatee Village staff will host Spiritualism & Tea at Charms of Leffingwell on April 26 and 27. Charms of Leffingwell is a tea room and antique store housed in a 1905 historical home in Ellenton. Charms will serve tea, scones, finger sandwiches and sweets. Manatee Village staff will provide trivia and a brief talk on the history of Spiritualism, a fascinating religious movement that started in the mid-1800s based on the belief that spirits of the deceased remain present and are able to communicate with and give guidance to the living. The talk will touch on topics like the ghost story that started the movement in 1848 and the founding of Cassadaga, Florida's famous "Psychic Capital of the World", around 1875. There will be two identical sessions offered on either Friday, April 26 or Saturday, April 27 at 11am. The teas will take place at Charms of Leffingwell: 905 Leffingwell Ave, Ellenton, FL 34222. Tickets are $22 and include tea, sweets, and savories. They may be purchased online at www.manateevillage.org/events or by calling Manatee Village staff at (941) 749-7165. Dress up is encouraged. There will be a best hat contest. Manatee Village has eight sets of assisted listening devices available for use during the talk on a first come, first served basis. Manatee Village Historical Park is located at 1404 Manatee Avenue East (State Road 64) Bradenton, Florida.
