Have you ever seen a meteor? Have you ever witnessed a "meteor shower?" It's safe to say that many people, hearing there's a meteor shower, might head outside for 10 or 15 minutes, get frustrated and go to bed having seen nothing at all. Among the "best" of these events is the annual Geminid Meteor Shower, which this year will peak on the night of Thursday, December 13th through the morning of Friday, December 14th. Under the most ideal observing conditions, this particular shower can produce as many as 120 visible meteors per hour, although it's more likely most observers might be able to spot one meteor every few minutes or so. I am very pleased to announce that the Local Group of Deep Sky Observers has made arrangements with the Sarasota Audubon Society to allow us to welcome the public to the TOP OF THE HILL at the Celery Fields to observe this potentially awesome event.
