Sarasota has quietly become one of Florida's most exciting culinary destinations. Long celebrated for fresh-caught seafood and waterfront dining, the region has evolved into a place where culturally diverse chefs broaden menus with global recipes, innovative restaurateurs open unexpected gems in unassuming plazas and locally sourced ingredients go beyond our Gulf Coast waters—earning accolades from some of the food world's most respected organizations, including Michelin Guide and the James Beard Foundation.
These standout restaurants prove Sarasota belongs on every epicure's food-fueled itinerary.
Michelin Guide-Recognized Restaurants in Sarasota
The 2026 Michelin Guide Florida recognized three local restaurants, highlighting the destination's burgeoning dining reputation.
Lucky 8: 2026 Michelin Bib Gourmand
One of Sarasota's hottest restaurants in Southside Village, Lucky 8 earned the coveted Bib Gourmand, recognizing restaurants that deliver exceptional food at an excellent value.
Inspired by the neighborhood eateries of New Orleans, Chef Mark Majorie brings the soul of the Crescent City to Sarasota with a playful, modern take on Southern comfort food. Expect Bayou classics like crispy po' boys, gumbo, muffulettas, red beans and rice, boudin, smash burgers, craft beers and bottled root beer—all delivered with warm hospitality and a lively, eclectic atmosphere full of curated antique finds and funky murals.
Focaccia Sandwich + Bakery: Michelin Recommended
What began as a beloved bakery by Chef Nick Sammelman has become one of Sarasota's most sought-after lunch destinations. Focaccia Sandwich + Bakery earned Michelin Recommended status for elevating the humble sandwich into something extraordinary.
Built around house-made focaccia that's naturally fermented and baked fresh daily, the menu features artisan sandwiches—including its signature Prime Rib—layered with premium ingredients, plus creative breakfast offerings, seasonal soups and salads, scratch-made pastries and local kombucha. With an unwavering focus on craftsmanship and stellar countertop service, it's the kind of strip-mall stop absolutely worth planning a trip for.
Tralia: Michelin Recommended
Located in the Gulf Gate area of Sarasota, Tralia Pizza received Michelin Recommended recognition for its modern interpretation on Detroit-style pizza and Italian-inspired cuisine.
Chef Anthony Petralia started Tralia as a "pop-up" restaurant at a local commissary kitchen, and built a devoted following over the years for his naturally leavened sourdough pizzas—from crisp-edged, pillowy dough squares to airy, artisan round pies. Here, thoughtful technique and premium ingredients meet a full bar and a trendy neighborhood vibe—making it equally suited for a casual pizza night or an elevated dinner with friends.
Coming Soon – OLIVIA and On Swann
Sarasota's nationally acclaimed dining scene continues to grow with the arrival of two celebrated Tampa restaurants at University Town Center (UTC) in 2027.
Olivia, Chef Chris Ponte's modern Italian trattoria named after his daughter, brings house-made pastas, wood-fired specialties and seasonal Italian cuisine to Sarasota. Ponte is a James Beard Award nominee and Golden Spoon Hall of Fame inductee whose broader restaurant group has earned widespread critical acclaim.
Joining Olivia will be its sister concept, On Swann, a stylish restaurant known for chef-driven New American cuisine, inventive cocktails and an energetic yet chic atmosphere. A continuously Michelin Recommended restaurant in Tampa, On Swann's arrival further cements UTC as one of Sarasota's emerging culinary scenes.
James Beard-Honored Hot Spots in Sarasota
While Michelin shines a spotlight on individual restaurants, Sarasota has also built an impressive reputation through chefs and restaurateurs recognized by the James Beard Foundation, one of America's highest culinary honors.
Indigenous Restaurant
Tucked inside a historic cottage in Sarasota's Towles Court district, Indigenous has become one of Florida's pioneers of sustainable, ingredient-driven dining. Chef-owner Steve Phelps, a multi-time Florida Trend Golden Spoon winner and James Beard Foundation Best Chef: South Semifinalist, builds an ever-changing menu around responsibly sourced seafood, seasonal produce and partnerships with local fishermen, farmers and artisans.
Gulf Coast flavors and a deep respect for agriculture and aquaculture remain at the heart of every dish at Indigenous—from signature mushroom bisque and sustainable seafood to creative vegetable-forward plates. It's a restaurant that feels unmistakably Sarasota: refined patio seating without being fussy, rooted in place and driven by what's freshest that day.
Sage Restaurant
Set inside the beautifully restored 1925 Sarasota Times Building, Sage Restaurant blends globally inspired cuisine with one of the city's most elegant dining settings.
Executive Chef Christopher Covelli's culinary career spans many countries and James Beard Foundation acknowledgments, including hosting seven James Beard dinners in NYC. At Sage, his team crafts an ever-evolving menu that draws from French, Italian, Spanish and contemporary American influences. Signature dishes like the Thai Bouillabaisse and intricate desserts are complemented by expertly curated cocktails and an award-winning wine program. A nightcap on the rooftop lounge overlooking Downtown Sarasota does not disappoint.
Maison Blanche
For more than three decades, Maison Blanche has set the standard for fine French dining in Sarasota. Discreetly located on Longboat Key, Chef José Martinez's elegant yet modest restaurant offers an intimate prix fixe dining experience rooted in classic French technique and impeccable hospitality. Guests can expect standouts like Wild Mushroom Ravioli, Mediterranean sea bass, Colorado lamb and expertly prepared sauces, but never miss the legendary desserts from The Haye Loft upstairs.
Maison Blanche has earned acclaim through its relationship with the James Beard Foundation—including the creation of a scholarship program for aspiring culinary students—while also being recognized among the nation's top restaurants by publications such as Forbes and Zagat.
Zōtō & Yūgen
One of Sarasota's newest culinary arrivals is Zōtō, located in the UTC. The contemporary Japanese restaurant brings an elevated take on izakaya, a lively style of dining centered around shared plates, sushi, robata-grilled specialties and craft cocktails. Behind the concept are restaurateurs Jimmy and Johnny Tung, James Beard Award semifinalists for Outstanding Restaurateur and the team behind Tampa's Michelin-starred Kōsen.
Hidden within the restaurant is Yūgen, a 10-seat, reservation-only omakase counter led by Chef Atsushi Okawara, whose career includes executive chef roles at Michelin-star restaurants in Miami Beach and Napa Valley. The immersive tasting experience showcases a seasonal kaiseki-style menu and a full spectrum of Japanese techniques, paired by a beverage program curated by a recipient of the Michelin Guide Florida Sommelier Award.
