Visit Sarasota County Adds New Team Members to The Sports Department

Congratulations to VSC's new hire and well-deserved transition to the sports team

SARASOTA, Fla. (July 25, 2022) – Visit Sarasota County is delighted to welcome Pete Harvey to the team as Director of Sports, and congratulations to Nate Sweetman on his transition to the sports department under Pete, as the new Sports Marketing Coordinator.

Pete originally hails from New York but spent almost 20 years in Florida in the sports and resort arenas, before residing in the Buffalo, NY region for the last 15 years. He was the Director of Sport Development for the Buffalo Niagara Sports Commission and played an integral part in starting the Sports Commission. Pete was involved in hosting a variety of events in Buffalo, including the IIHF World Junior Championships, Empire State Games and the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the prolific NCAA Basketball March Madness tournaments.

Pete started his career in the hospitality industry at age 14. Former three-sport athlete in high school, Pete went on to play college volleyball at Springfield College in Massachusetts.

Nate Sweetman has been employed since 2021 at Visit Sarasota County as the Communications and Public Relations Coordinator but recently accepted this role in the Sports Department as the Sports Marketing Coordinator. Nate will be overseeing the Sports Grant Program and Florida Sports Foundation Grant Program and assist in bringing sporting events to Sarasota County’s premier sporting venues.

In his spare time, Nate enjoys working out and spending time with family and friends. He also played college basketball at D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY.
