Mozart & More!
January 22, 2026A concert of hidden gems kicks off the ninth season of the Chamber Orchestra of Sarasota on Thursday, January 22 at 7:30pm at the First Presbyterian Church. This lively program features music by Mozart and Tchaikovsky, plus a concertino by Ernest Bloch and a little-known work by Jewish composer Gideon Klein.
Led by Music Director Robert Vodnoy, the Chamber Orchestra will take the audience on a musical tour which spans almost two centuries. The program opens with Mozart’s sparkling Divertimento in B-Flat Major. The program continues with Tchaikovsky’s heartfelt Andante Cantabile with solo cellist Scott Kluksdahl. Flutist Angela Massey and violist Rafael Ramirez take center stage to perform Ernest Bloch’s dazzling Concertino for Flute, Viola, and Strings, composed in 1950.
The concert concludes with Gideon Klein’s Partitura for Strings, a work which Klein composed while imprisoned in Terezín Concentration Camp in 1944. Underneath the lighthearted nature of the piece lies direct references to Klein’s Moravian roots and the idyllic early life he saw destroyed by the Nazi invasion.
