Flute Through the Ages
March 05, 2026 See All Dates“Flute Through the Ages,” Thursday, March 5 @ 7pm at Selby Gardens (Downtown Sarasota): Hermitage Fellow and Juilliard-trained flutist Emi Ferguson is on a mission to shake up classical music. Whether playing modern or historical flute, singing, or composing, she brings centuries of music to life with an adventurous spirit and a fresh perspective. Her performances, ranging from Baroque masterpieces to new commissions, are anything but predictable, as Ferguson blends historical performance with a fearless, modern edge. A recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant, Emi thrives as both a soloist and a collaborator, appearing at major festivals and concert halls around the world. Hailed by critics for her “tonal bloom” and “hauntingly beautiful performances,” Ferguson redefines what it means to be a contemporary musician: mastering not only her instrument, but its impact on the broader artistic landscape. In the fifth season of the Hermitage’s annual Crosby Alumni Music Initiative, join Emi Ferguson as she brings her signature style to classical flute repertoire that stretches from the Renaissance to today. Presented in partnership with Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. Emi Ferguson’s concert and Hermitage residency are made possible through the Ruby E. Crosby Alumni Music Series at the Hermitage. Registration is required at HermitageArtistRetreat.org ($5/person registration fee). Estimated running time: 60-70 minutes; indoor venue.
