From farmer’s markets brimming with unique goodies to avenues lined with sophisticated boutiques, here are some fun, open-air shopping experiences in and around Sarasota.

Downtown Sarasota

Downtown Sarasota

If you’re looking to spend a whole day conquering your holiday gift list, this should be your destination. Over several hip districts and artsy enclaves, you’ll find one-of-a-kind locally made items, high-end chains and, whenever you need it, excellent food and drink. Check out the Rosemary District, Burns Court, Main Street, Palm Street and Main Street. If your gift search includes locally made foods and crafts, check out the Downtown Sarasota Farmers Market, which takes place Saturday mornings from 7-11 am.

Venice Farmers Market

Downtown Venice

You can easily check off your list in Venice thanks to the diverse range of boutiques lining the streets here – especially Venice and Miami Avenues. Time your visit so you’re here on a Saturday, when the Venice Farmer’s Market brings vendors selling everything from handmade soaps and tapestries to local bread and honey.

Lakewood Ranch Main Street

Among the manicured sidewalks of this sophisticated Lakewood Ranch enclave, you’ll find quite a few fun boutiques, from fine-wine sellers to jewelry and home décor – and it wouldn’t be Lakewood Ranch without dining options aplenty. Then, there’s the ever-so-fun Main Street Market, a monthly gathering of vendors and the fresh finds they offer. The December edition takes place Dec. 18 from 10 am to 2 pm.

Phillippi  Creek

Phillippi Farmhouse Market

Care you pair your shopping session with a little history and natural beauty? This is the spot for you. Just south of Sarasota proper and east of Siesta Key, this unique market happens every Wednesday from 9 am to 2 pm October through April. While you’re here, stroll the 60 acres of green space and check out the Edson Keith Estate, a former mansion that’s on the National Register of Historic Places.

Siesta Key Village

It’s always fun to stroll through beachy, laid-back Siesta Key Village – whether it’s souvenirs or coastal accent pieces for the beach lover in your life. But if you’re here on a Sunday, you’re in for a treat: Siesta Key Farmer’s Market. Find produce, packaged food items that make great gifts and lovingly handmade local goods you won’t see anywhere else. It’s held every Sunday from 8 am till noon.
