Who has the right to decide what we read?
Join the Social Justice Committee at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Venice (UUCOV) for a free screening of The Librarians, a powerful documentary exploring book bans, censorship, and the fight to protect the freedom to read.
As challenges to books increase across the country, librarians find themselves on the front lines of debates about access to information, diverse perspectives, and First Amendment rights. The film follows librarians navigating community conflicts, censorship efforts, harassment, and threats while defending the public's access to books and ideas.
This screening invites us to reflect on the importance of intellectual freedom, the power of stories, and the role each of us plays in protecting the right to read and learn.
Stay after the film for a short discussion about the issues raised in the documentary and their impact on our communities.
In keeping with our Unitarian Universalist commitment to justice, equity, and the inherent worth and dignity of every person, this event offers an opportunity to learn, listen, and engage in thoughtful conversation.
Everyone is welcome! We hope you will join us for an afternoon of film, reflection, and community discussion.
