City of Sarasota Public Art Program

, , (941) 263-6349

The City of Sarasota Public Art Program has been enriching the city’s public spaces and cultural landscape since its establishment in 1989. Now approaching its 40th year, the program continues to bring inspiring artworks into parks, streetscapes, waterfronts, civic buildings, and other spaces enjoyed daily by residents and visitors.

Over the decades, the program has grown into a vibrant and diverse collection that highlights both local and national artistic talent. Sculptures, murals, and site‑specific installations are thoughtfully placed throughout the community, creating moments of discovery and connection across the city.

A distinctive element of the program is its collaboration with the development community within the City of Sarasota. Public art is required for major commercial, mixed use, and multifamily developments, which means that many artworks are located on development sites yet remain fully accessible to the public. These developer contributions complement the City’s own initiatives and help ensure that public art continues to be part of the city’s evolving built environment.

Visitors can explore this growing collection in person or take a deeper dive online. The City of Sarasota Public Art Virtual Tour offers an easy and engaging way to learn more about each artwork, the artists behind them, and the stories woven into the city’s visual landscape. Explore the collection at www.SarasotaFL.gov/Public-Art-Tour.

Through decades of planning, collaboration, and community support, the City of Sarasota Public Art Program continues to shape an inviting and art filled environment that makes every visit to Sarasota more memorable.
