November’s first holiday weekend offers a head-spinning lineup of annual celebrations, competitions, and festivals around town.

Here are the highlights so you can choose wisely or visit as many as possible!

Siesta Key Crystal Classic

This November 9th-12th, 24 premier master sand sculptors from all over the world will spend 24 “sculpting hours” creating breathtaking works of art from Siesta Key’s world-renowned sand! In its 9th year, the international sand sculpting competition has become a festival of cultural arts, featuring a pop-up village of live music, food, drinks, and shopping on the sand of Siesta Key’s public beach. Other activities include sand sculpting lessons, an amateur sculpting competition, and the popular “Quick Sand” contest.

Sarasota MOD Weekend

The fifth annual midcentury modern architecture festival celebrates the centennial of Sarasota School of Architecture co-founder Paul Rudolph. Pulitzer Prize winning architecture critic Paul Goldberger will deliver the keynote address, and join other distinguished architects and historians offering insights through presentations and a panel discussion. The three-day event will also feature trolley tours, a yoga session in Rudolph’s “Umbrella House” in Lido Shores, and guided walking tours of other Rudolph homes like the “Cocoon House” on Siesta Key, and the entrance of Sarasota High School.

Sarasota Medieval Fair

Step back in time at the Sarasota Fairgrounds to learn combat, games, crafting, and more from the first century. In its 15th year, the fair has grown to three full weekends of music, food, comedy, and history the whole family can enjoy. This year’s medieval revelry will include a living Viking re-enactment group as well!

Suncoast Food and Wine Fest

Enjoy samplings from more than 40 restaurants, wonderful wines, beer and live music at the Suncoast Food & Wine Fest. Organized by the Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch, festival proceeds have provided more than $1.6 million in grants to charity. You will never have so much fun doing so much good !

Veterans Day Parade

On Sunday, November 11, join an anticipated crowd of 8,000 along Main Street in downtown Sarasota for the annual Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony. More than 30 organizations will march from Osprey Avenue to Gulfstream Avenue starting at 10 a.m., and will conclude with an 11 a.m. ceremony at J.D. Hamel Park. Sunday’s parade will celebrate Vietnam veterans and women who served in the military, including three female World War II veterans according to organizers. This year’s theme is “All Gave Some. Some Gave All.”
