Maharaja Flamenco Trio
Maharajah Flamenco Trio is an energy-charged act that combines the talents of three Florida State University alumni. Their sound blends the flavors of Spain, Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean and more. Founder and guitarist Silviu Ciulei studied in Spain’s Andalusia region, developing a mastery of flamenco guitar, and later received his Ph.D. in classical guitar. David Cobb anchors the trio with his bass, and his master’s degree in ethnomusicology reflects his fascination with the music of cultures from Africa to western Asia to eastern Europe. Ramin Yazdanpanah brings his Cuban-Iranian heritage to his riveting hand percussion. MFT has performed nationwide from Florida to Harlem, on NPR and on television, and has twice been a featured act at the Southern Guitar Festival. The trio will perform at Oak Street Stage, a new music venue on the campus of First Presbyterian Church in Sarasota.
