Sarasota, Florida – (October 27, 2016) It was a record breaking summer for Sarasota County, as Visit Sarasota County (VSC) releases numbers showing growth during the July through September time period.

This success is seen after Visit Sarasota County ran an aggressive in-state marketing campaign that featured television print and digital advertising.  Programming at the beginning of the summer was kicked off with the ever popular 11th Annual Savor Sarasota Restaurant week which many restaurants extended throughout the summer, and ended in September with the first ever “Shoptember Sarasota” promotion where Visit Sarasota County used online channels to promote all of the shopping districts and deals to increase awareness of these offerings, and to peak interest in visitation and spending.

During this three month period, there was a 3.1% increase in visitors staying in paid lodging, and a 4.2% increase in visitor spending when compared to the same time period last year.  Hotel occupancy was at 64.2% which is an increase of 2.1% with hotel room rates increasing by 2.6% to $151.72.  Customer satisfaction rates grew from 89% in 2015 to 95% in 2016.  We also saw a spike in the number of visitors with children in the travel party, growing from 33% in the summer of 2015 to 42% in the summer of 2016.

Visit Sarasota County (VSC) leads and supports the tourism industry in Sarasota County by providing the highest quality, and most innovative, marketing programs and promotions to ensure the continued growth of tourism and travel from visitors around the world.  It is the mission of VSC to make Sarasota County the must experience destination on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
