Visit Sarasota County announces another successful year for tourism in 2014

SARASOTA, Fla. (November 17, 2014) – Visit Sarasota County today announced the year-end numbers for fiscal year 2014 (October 1, 2013-September 30, 2014).  929,000 visitors stayed in paid lodging representing an increase of 5.2% over the previous fiscal year.  Both direct expenditures and economic impact increased 10.4% over the previous fiscal year.

“I’m very pleased with the results,” said Virginia Haley, president of Visit Sarasota County. “We are pacing above much of our competitive set in Florida. With the addition of new hotel inventory, a continued commitment to targeted outreach in key markets and strong partnerships with our industry partners, we stand poised to ensure another successful year for tourism in 2015.”  

For the first time in the lodging survey’s history, all lodging respondents reported a positive outlook for booking pace in 2015.
