October 11, 2019

SARASOTA, Fla. (October 11, 2019) – Visit Sarasota County is proud to be a sponsor and supporter of four unique sports events occurring throughout Sarasota County this fall. Events include two Ultimate tournaments: Boom! At the Beach and the Pan American Ultimate Championships; and two additional niche sport events : USA BMX Sunshine State Nationals and Sarasota International Coastal Regatta. Visitors and locals alike are encouraged to attend the events to spectate, and those looking to get behind-the-scenes can volunteer for the Pan American Ultimate Championships.

Boom! At the Beach: October 19-20, 2019

The first annual two-day 4v4 beach ultimate tournament on Siesta Beach is presented by the Tampa Bay Cannons. Siesta Key is a familiar locale for thousands of Ultimate players across the nation, as teams would often stay there during the Ultimate National Club Championships, held from 2000-2012 at the Sarasota Polo Club. As beach ultimate continues to grow in popularity, it makes perfect sense to hold an annual tournament at the iconic Siesta Beach. The event will consist of pool play on Saturday and bracket play on Sunday in both Mixed and Open divisions. Registration is still open for any teams who would like to participate. USA BMX Sunshine State Nationals: October 19-20, 2019

Hundreds of USA BMX professional and amateur riders from all over the world will return to Sarasota BMX for the second year in a row to compete in the Sunshine State Nationals, a part of USA BMX’s National Race Circuit. The track’s dual-hill design enables the event to include PRO races, which will feature riders competing for points to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Local spectators will have the opportunity to see some of the world’s most skilled athletes soar through the air as they come off of the 8-meter start ramp. Established in 1974, Sarasota BMX is the oldest, continuously running BMX track in America. For the past 43 years, the track has hosted countless state, regional and national races. There is no ticket needed to watch the action, however there will be a charge for parking. For more information, visit www.usabmx.com.

Pan American Ultimate Championships: November 4-9, 2019

More than 1,000 ultimate players from North, Central and South America are expected to travel to Sarasota County to compete in the week-long Pan American Ultimate Championship (PAUC), held at the Sarasota Polo Club. The event is sanctioned by the World Flying Disc Federation and hosted by Oshadega LLC, an ultimate events production company. The tournament will include multiple divisions, including men, women and mixed. Game play will take place from 9:00 AM until approximately 1:30 PM each day, giving participants plenty of time to enjoy Sarasota County’s amenities. Volunteers are still needed for the tournament, more information and signups can be found at the event website, www.pauc2019.com.

Sarasota International Coastal Regatta: November 22-24, 2019

This November, Sarasota will become the home to yet another discipline of rowing – coastal rowing. The first annual Sarasota Coastal Rowing Regatta will take place at South Lido Beach. The Sarasota Coastal Rowing Association (SCRA), a local non-profit organization, is acting as the event host in collaboration with USRowing. “We are looking to build an annual event that will bring in rowers, crews and spectators from around the United States and the World.” says Event Director, Jim Henderson.

Coastal Rowing Races generally start with a foot sprint from a beach start to the boats in the water. Rowers then race on a single course out to sea and back around a series of buoy turns. Rowers beach the boat and run to the finish line to conclude the race. Heat races are typically 4K, and finals are 6K in length. For more information, visit www.SarasotaCoastalRowingAssociation.com.
