2020 Spring Sporting Events in Sarasota County

SARASOTA, Fla. (February 18, 2020)

Visit Sarasota County (VSC) is excited to share the major sporting events that span our region this spring, and the opportunities for both locals and visitors to get involved. Fox Lea Farms hosts equestrian events throughout the year; however, an annual uptick in events is seen during this time of year. Nathan Benderson Park, a powerhouse facility for hosting national and world events, will host multiple qualifying events that will influence athletes’ fates for the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2020. A BMX National at Sarasota BMX will also feature riders vying for a spot in Tokyo.

Venice Equestrian Tour: January 15 – March 8, 2020

Fox Lea Farms offers eight consecutive weeks of equestrian events for USEF level 3 jumpers, USEF regional and hunters. These boutique hunter/jumper shows are located just minutes from Venice, Florida, beaches. Spectators are welcome to the shows running Wednesday through Sunday. Admission to the Venice Equestrian Tour is $5 and to the Friday night Grand Prix “Jumping Under the Stars” is $10.

Snowbird Baseball Classic: February 7 – March 24, 2020

The 12th season of the tournament welcomes 21 NCAA Division I and 23 Division III schools. Known as one of the country’s largest collegiate spring baseball tournaments, schools from across the country will compete during this five-week event. This tournament is a unique opportunity to see some of tomorrow’s major league stars, as some games have 40 to 50 scouts in the stands. Some participating Division I institutions include The Ohio State University, Dartmouth, Kent State, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and Villanova; and Division III include Denison University, Marietta College, Babson College.

USA BMX Gator National: February 21 – 23, 2020

The 2020 Gator Nationals will take place at Sarasota BMX, 1500 North Tuttle Ave, Sarasota, FL. This pro series race is a part of the national race schedule and this is the first year it will be held in Sarasota. Sarasota’s dual hill designed track enables the event to include PRO races. Local spectators will have the opportunity to see some of the world’s most skilled athletes soar through the air as they come off the 8-meter start ramp. Established in 1974, Sarasota BMX is the oldest, continuously running BMX track in America. There is no ticket needed to watch the action, however there will be a fee for parking. Sarasota ITU Triathlon & Paratriathlon World Cup: March 21- 22, 2020

Elite triathletes and paratriathletes will compete in a spectator-friendly 750-meter swim, 18.3-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run course. The prize purse for the elite races is $60,000. The event falls within the ITU Olympic and Paralympic qualification window, allowing athletes to earn valuable points toward both individual ranking and country quotas for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.

2020 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Team Trials - Rowing: March 16-21 & April 13-18, 2020

The most competitive rowers in the USA will compete in the 2020 Olympic Trials, at Nathan Benderson Park. The first 2020 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Team Trials – Rowing will be held March 17-20 and will feature racing in the women’s single sculls, men’s single sculls, lightweight women’s double sculls and lightweight men’s double sculls.

The second 2020 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Team Trials – Rowing will be held April 14-18 and will feature racing in the four Olympic boat classes – the women’s double sculls, men’s double sculls, men’s pair, and men’s quadruple sculls, as well as three Paralympic boat classes – PR1 men’s singled sculls, PR1 women’s single sculls, and PR2 mixed double sculls.
