The Cinematheque premieres its very first movie in Sarasota

The Sarasota Film Festival (SFF) now offers a year-round Cinematheque program that brings classic American and foreign movies to local audiences.

A cinematheque is often known as a small movie theater specializing in historically important or niche films.

The SFF Cinematheque presents a rare opportunity to see the best films from the history of cinema on the big screen. Each screening will be preceded by an introduction from a film personality to make the viewing experience even more enriching.

The series will launch with one of the greatest and most romantic Hollywood movies ever made. Moody Bogie, stunning Ingrid Bergman, "we'll always have Paris!" – Casablanca has become part of the global culture, showing up regularly on the lists of the top ten best films ever made. The legendary 1942 motion picture tells the story a heroic nightclub owner who tries to save his old flame from Nazis in Morocco. A captivating wartime adventure, romance and intrigue.

The Casablanca showing will be on Saturday, December 1st at 6pm at 500 Tallevast Rd, Sarasota, FL 34243. Snacks and refreshments will be available. Guests are invited to stay after the movie to chat with other cinephiles.

The Cinematheque program continues on December 14th with the showing of Akira Kurosawa’s masterpiece Rashomon (1950).
