Richard Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde, is the story of an Irish princess who is destined to be married to King Marke, but falls in love with her escort, the King’s nephew, Tristan. Based on Goethe’s classic novel, Gounod’s operatic setting of Faust is reimagined by placing a giant black ring centre-stage that casts an ominous shadow over the singers and dominates the action.
