Big Mama's Collard Green Fest

Newtown Nation in Sarasota, in collaboration with our community partners, is excited to host the 2nd annual Big Mama's Collard Greens Fest on October 21, 2017 from 12p-6p. The location is the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex, a spacious outdoor facility known for bringing families together from across the city and the state. Admission is free. This is a family-friendly, no-alcohol event. Outside food or drinks are not allowed, but we do encourage families to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets.
The fest is a celebration of community and culture, with influence from Cajun, Creole, Southern and Caribbean styles. The legendary "big mama" represents the best-tasting family collard greens recipes, some dating back more than 100 years. In addition, chefs from major restaurants in Sarasota and Manatee Counties and the Tampa Bay area will showcase their collard greens and specialty foods. Entertainment will be provided by Natural Vibes, a local reggae band, and other local performers.
Vending and sponsorships are available to support the Newtown Farmer's Market, a resource under Newtown Nation to benefit the underserved community.
