Brazilian-American composer Clarice Assad captures the energy and vitality of Carnival partygoers in her Bonecos de Olinda Overture. Sir Stephen Hough, recognized by The Guardian as “…a keyboard colossus…” brings his deep, interpretive gifts to Rachmaninoff’s glorious Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini , portions of which have found their way into film and television scores for decades. The program concludes with Sir Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, a love letter to the composer’s nearest and dearest friends and family.
