Conductor Nicholas McGegan opens the Discoveries season with Richard Strauss’ luscious Serenade, featuring 13 of Sarasota Orchestra’s wind and horn players. The strings have their turn to shine in Elgar’s Introduction and Allegro, composed in 1905 to show off the string section of the London Symphony Orchestra. The program culminates with the full orchestra performing Haydn’s final and perhaps best-known London Symphony. It is an incredible fusion of his signature wit and humor with an awe-inspiring grandeur.
