Masterworks:
Billed as "A season of firsts," Masterworks highlights include conductor Neeme Järvi, violinist Leila Josefowicz and the world premiere of American composer Jerry Bilik's symphony.
Masterworks 1: The Emperor
November 6 through 8
Anu Tali launches the season conducting one of Beethoven's most venerated piano concertos (No. 5, the "Emperor") and two important works by Shostakovich (Festive Overture and Symphony No. 5). Guest pianist is Marc-André Hamelin.
Masterworks 2: Eroica
December 4 through 6
Under the baton of guest conductor Perry So, the program includes the debut of American composer Jerry Bilik's Symphony in M-L; Beethoven's heroic Symphony No. 3, Eroica; and the Sibelius Violin Concerto featuring Leila Josefowicz.
Masterworks 3: Winter Dreams
January 7 through 10
Billed as a Russian extravaganza, Anu Tali conducts Dunayevsky's The Children of Captain Grant Overture, Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 1, Winter Dreams, with pianist Mihkel Poll.
Masterworks 4: All About Mozart
February 4 through 7
What would an orchestral season be without a moment for Mozart? Father and son marvels Andrei and Sergey Dogadin perform Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante. An ode to Joseph Haydn, Mozart's teacher, opens the concert and the "Jupier", Mozart's 41st and final symphony, brings it to a close.
