Sarasota Fishing Reports: March 7 2016

As weather warms fishing action picked up last week according to Capt. Rick Grassett and Capt. Jim Klopfer out of CB’s Saltwater Outfitters

Trout, bluefish, Spanish mackerel, pompano and ladyfish were just a few of the species caught on fishing charter trips last week in Sarasota bay. Anglers had good action on deep grass flats, edges of bars and backcountry areas.

Capt. Rick Grassett’s fishing report

Anglers fishing with Capt. Grassett caught a variety of species in the coastal gulf  near Venice on CAL jigs with shad tails and flies during the past week. Early in the week Capt. Grassett’s charter caught bluefish and ladyfish on deep grass flats of Sarasota Bay, as well as snook in the evening. Mid-week, charters continued to have good action catching trout, ladyfish and a pompano on Ultra Hair Clouser flies. Later in the week trout action continued using the same techniques as earlier in the week.

Capt. Jim Klopfer’s fishing report

Fishing was good for Capt. Jim Klopfer’s fishing clients tossing Bass Assassin Sea Shad baits and fly anglers casting Clouser Minnows on deeper grass flats in Sarasota bay. Ladyfish provided most of the action, but bluefish, speckled trout and jack crevelle also took the bait. Structure in Big Pass and the inshore Gulf of Mexico yielded good numbers of sheepshead, mangrove snapper and gag grouper for anglers fishing live bait on the bottom.
