Sarasota County Fishing Reports: April 18

Fishing captains report decent action this week in Sarasota Bay.

Fishing captains report decent action this week in Sarasota Bay. Captain Jim Klopfer and Rick Grassett give their reports of the past week:

Captain Jim Klopfer’s Fishing Report

Capt. Klopfer reports that fishing was good as weather improved. Slack tides in past week were good for fishing structure in the passes. Sheepshead, snapper, and grouper were caught in Big Pass around structures such as rocks and docks. Spanish mackerel, bluefish, and ladyfish were caught drifting shrimp and using Bass Assassin Sea Shad jigs. Speckled trout, bluefish and ladyfish were found on grass flats near Bird Key and the Middlegrounds.

Captain Rick Grassett’s Fishing Report

Anglers with Capt. Grassett on his Action Craft flats skiff caught and released bluefish, Spanish mackerel and trout on deep grass flats of Sarasota Bay on flies and DOA Lures during the past week. Grassett says sea trout, Spanish mackerel, and bluefish should be good options on deep grass flats of Sarasota Bay. Look for reds, snook and big trout with schools of mullet or cruising shallow flats and edges of bars. Night snook fishing around lighted docks and bridges should also be a good option.
