Allegiant Airlines

Allegiant flight offerings took off in 2019 and 2020.

The airline's most recent announcement was a new nonstop route to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) starting November 19, 2020. Earlier in the year, SRQ also added a new nonstop route from Allentown, Penn. starting February 13, 2020.

SRQ added eight new nonstop routes starting late November, 2019 from Des Moines, Iowa; Flint, Mich.; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Louisville, Ky.; Rockford, Ill.; St. Louis, Mo.; and South Bend, Ind. These routes will operate twice weekly.

Allegiant also offers new year-round, twice-weekly service between SRQ and Asheville, N.C.; Baltimore, Md.; Syracuse, N.Y.; Harrisburg, Pa.; Columbus, Ohio (LCK); Richmond, Va.; Cleveland, Ohio; Grand Rapids, Mich. and Nashville, Tenn.

“The airport has experienced substantial growth since Allegiant began service in April [2018],” said Rick Piccolo, president and CEO of Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, when the new 2019 flights were announced. “The addition of nine new cities will provide our community with many more ultra-low-cost options, and we look forward to the continued growth and success of Allegiant at SRQ.”

United Airlines

United Airlines announced in April they would be adding twice daily nonstop service from SRQ Airport to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) near the Washington, D.C., area. Service is set to begin October 27, 2019 to accompany United's existing nonstop service to Chicago and Newark from SRQ.

Frontier Airlines

Frontier Airlines added new service for 2019 as well. Flights to and from Philadelphia and Cleveland run three days a week during the winter season. Service from SRQ to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport begins Oct. 10, 2019 on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Also, starting Friday, November 15, Frontier will be offering seasonal nonstop flights to Trenton, N.J. four days a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

“We are excited see Frontier Airlines continue to grow their service by adding a fourth nonstop destination at SRQ,” said Piccolo when the latest route to Trenton was announced.

American Airlines

American Airlines began new nonstop service from Philadelphia International Airport to SRQ on Saturdays and Sundays and daily nonstop service from Chicago O’Hare International Airport. These flights from both cities will be offered through September 1, 2019. American’s new nonstop service between Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport and SRQ will return on October 3, 2019.

Elite Airways

Elite Airways began new nonstop, year-round service between Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City, M.I. and SRQ. Elite also flies between SRQ and Portland, M.E., two times a week throughout the year.

Sun Country Airlines

Minnesota residents are spoiled with another cheap ticket to paradise. Sun Country Airlines, a privately held company based in the Twin Cities, will have nonstop seasonal service from Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) to SRQ operating twice a week on Fridays and Mondays beginning December 20, 2019. Fares are as low as $79 one-way, so act fast (especially if you're looking for a nice holiday gift for that special someone).

More Options Than Ever!

These new flights add to the array of nonstop destinations already available at SRQ, which includes daily, year-round service to Atlanta  and New York (LGA) on Delta Air Lines, Chicago on United Airlines, New York’s JFK International Airport on JetBlue (Boston daily service returns on September 4, 2019), Washington National Airport and Charlotte, N.C. on American, and Cincinatti, O.H., Indianapolis, I.N., and Pittsburgh, P.A. (PIT) on Allegiant.

When it is all said and done in 2019, SRQ will offer nonstop flights to and from over 30 different cities. Which makes it easier than ever to plan a trip to Sarasota to escape the cold or spend some time on the beach this summer.
